Hebior Mammoth

In the early 1990s John Hebior was installing a drainage system in his Wisconsin corn field when he noticed some old bones in the dirt which his machine had dug up. He had the foresight to show them to an archaeologist. That chance discovery resulted in one of the most important mammoth discoveries ever in North America. The Hebior Mammoth had likely been killed and systematically butchered by Paleoindians 15,500 years ago. Three stone tools were found with the specimen and several bones exhibit butchering marks.
