This amazingly complete (90%) specimen was collected in 1968 by David Webb and a team from the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. It was found in bottom of the Aucilla River near the west coast of Florida. Due to the unique aspects of the excavation, it was featured in the February 1969 issue of National Geographic magazine. Radiometric dating places its age slightly beyond that of the Hebior Mammoth - at about 16,000 years. The original specimen is now on display at Powell Hall.
